Taking Heritage & Art Tourism to New Heights

MABU Newsletter Content | Spring 2019

The Red Cloud Indian School (RCIS) on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota has been the host to the largest and longest-running Native American annual art exhibition. It is one of few still held within an indigenous community.

The cultural and economic significance of this annual event led to the establishment of the Heritage Center, which is located within the RCIS on the reservation.

The museum and gallery had been a tourist draw and housed the yearly art show, but tribal leadership and members envisioned greater potential for the facility.

RCIS partnered with MABU to help create a completely new destination tourism package including a strategic communication plan, new website, promotional video, an image library, a library of print templates, and signage recommendations for the future.

With clear messaging, the Red Cloud Indian School will be able to increase the number of visitors (both in-person and online), advance sales of artwork and gift shop goods, and increase revenue from guided tours.
